Second Hand Volumes

 

Below are lists of second hand publications for sale to members of the Society as advertised in Newsletter 52 dated October 2017. They contain VRS back volumes as well as volumes from the Brenthurst library Collection. There are complete sets available as well as individual volumes and are offered as such. A part of the revenue obtained by selling these publications will accrue to the Society and will be used to finance future publications to keep increases in annual subscriptions to a minimum.

A number of publications in the tables below have already been sold. The lists must still be updated.

BRENTHURST LIBRARY PUBLICATIONS

 

Four sets of the Brenthurst Library publications on South African history, drawn from original manuscripts in the Library,  are offered for sale to members by a longstanding member of the Society, Mr Nick Diemont, who has generously agreed that the VRS will receive commission on any sales.

The Brenthurst Series books are published in three editions – Presentation (Full Leather, numbered A to Y); De Luxe (Half Leather, numbered 1 to 125) and Standard (not numbered, 850 copies). The first two Series were published between 1975 and 1994 and comprise 10 volumes each. Five volumes of the Third Series have already been printed

The De Luxe editions are bound in half leather, presented in a slipcase, and are much sought after by  collectors, while the Standard editions are bound in high quality bookcloth.

 

On offer:

1.      Complete set of First Series De Luxe edition No 111 of 125  -  Price indication R25 000

All volumes are signed by HF Oppenheimer. The condition is very good with slight fading in some places on the slipcases.

 

2.      Complete set of First Series Standard edition  -  Price indication R10 000

Most books signed by the author and/or HF Oppenheimer. Condition good with some fading on the spine of the Brenthurst Baines; 3 books have a watermark on the top edge.

 

3.      Complete set of Second Series Standard edition  -  Price indication R10 000

Condition good with some scuffing on the jackets. All books signed by the author and/or HF Oppenheimer.

 

4.      Complete set of Third Series Standard edition (five volumes published to date)  -  R7 000
